Listen to Owl Moon - story that I will read to you. This is a recount
What is a recount?
Class discussion
TASK:
Using the paper given to you (the one with x on every second line - please only write on the lines with x on them the reason for this is you will use this as your first draft and will be adding to it)
I want you to write a recount of an event that you remember well
Some ideas : holidays
day at the beach/river/fishing
day spent with friends
party
Christmas day
Homework: finish off this recount.
Continue with recount
Structure of recount or how is layed out.
Setting/Orientation
- This usually includes who, when, where, what and why.
Events
- usually arranged in cornological order (or the order they happen), then the writer eleborates(give more detail) on the events.
Conclusion
- this can reflect the author's feelings e.g. We were all tired and very full.
or it can sum up what has been told e.g. Captain Cook's voyage bought many benefits to the English government of the the time.
Using the text 'Owl Moon' see how the author has not just created a morning to night recount. There is an emphasis on the 'heart' of the event/experience - What is the heart or the experience
Revisit your own recount. What is the heart of the story.
Check structure of the text - make changes.
